Auto Salvage Yard How Do They Work?

im looking to restopr my car. ive heard that if you go to a auto junk year you can strip the parts yours self i live in new york city so i hav no idea where i can go to do somthing like this.... please help prices,places are needed, i have my own tool set so thats not the issue i just want to know how it works and its it is a good idea to go there or just but the parts new please help... Let me start out by saying I’m not mechanically inclined when it comes to auto repair. Last month I had an accident with my Toyota RAV4 and I wasn’t sure how to fix them. I tried to search the Internet for tips, but the procedures were too difficult for my skills. I ended up going to the dealship for my repairs. The dealership tends to charge more than mom and pop repair shops, but they’ve seen all sorts of situations (auto insurance problems, repair warranty issues, etc) and they seem to always find a way to help me. its always a good idea to go to the junk yard just as long as you know that the parts you are getting are functional if its a complicated part that needs to beperfect your better off just getting it new where i live the junk yards you can call or just stop in and ask if they have certain parts if they do its usaully be striped from the car already and they can get it or if not they send you to the yard and you pull it your self then you bring it back then pay im sorry i dont know of any in the new york area sorry im no help there
Not all yards are pull your own.
Some take off what parts that think they can sell and store them. The rest of the car they crush.
There are also “pull your own parts” yards which do not pull any parts.
Most yards are some where in between.

we have them too here in pa. all you do is pay the man a dollar, walk into the yard with your tools, take off the parts you want, walk back out to the office and pay the man for the parts you got. its called (u-pull it) here in pa.
