Has Anyone Had Experience With Selling A Salvage Title Auto?

Submitted by on June 29, 2009 – 5:29 am6 Comments

I am not expecting much if and when I sell it, especially since it does not have any value anymore. The body has been completely repaired and I had to replace the airbags which put it into the Salvage status. Do people buy salvage autos? Or do they normally get parted out?

A car is totaled/salvage if repairs cost more than 75% of it actual cash value.
If it’s salvaged but restored/roadworthy, you can expect to get about 60% of the value of a comparable clean-titled car. If it’s not driveable and a parts car you can expect to get about 25% of a comparable clean titled car. Go to kbb.com and nada.com to figure out its clean titled value.
I’ve purchased two totaled/reconstructed cars so yes, if the price is right and you are open to a pre-purchase inspection someone will buy the car, though not as quickly as a clean titled car. Salvage titles have a huge stigma attached to them, sometimes unfairly since it doesn’t take much to total a quality, older car like a Volvo or Mercedes.

in the states i’ve lived in the DMV must inspect the car before it can be sold after the repairs. they are very strict so if it passes it’s as good as any other on the road.

Yes some people do buy salvage autos but the price is normally at 50% of the value of what it would be if it was not Salvage. Good Luck and God Bless

People are scared to death to buy a “salvage” car, You will get more by parting it out, but it will take longer.

YES PLENTY OF PEOPLE BUY SALVAGE TITLES ONCE BEING INSPECTED BY THEIR OWN MECHANICS AND EVALUATING COST SAVINGS COST IS USUALLY ABOUT 75% OF BOOK VALUE MAYBE ALITTLE LESS

  • People do buy salvage vehicles. Just be honest about the condition and price it fairly. Just replacing air bags doesn’t make a car a salvage vehicle. It becomes a salvage when the cost to fix it exceeds the book value. If yours is a salvage vehicle, it will say that on the title paperwork.
